HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- A man has been sentenced to life in prison for a 2010 shooting death on a Beaufort County boat ramp.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Jerry Lamont Scantling was sentenced Thursday after he was convicted of charges including murder and armed robbery.

The body of Leonard Green was found shot to death at the Pinckney Island boat landing in May 2010. Authorities say Scantling lured Green to the landing and shot him twice.

Scantling was arrested shortly after Green’s death on charges of burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle. Two weeks earlier, Scantling had stolen a .45 caliber pistol from a home — the same gun authorities say was used to kill Green.

A pair of headphones left at the landing also matched Scantling’s DNA.
