A man who barricaded himself in a North Charleston area home to avoid a trip to jail is now in custody.

North Charleston police responded to the area of Poplar Ridge and Cedarwood roads to help serve a warrant that originated out of Moncks Corner, spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

The wanted man, however, barricaded himself inside of a residence, Pryor said.

Zach Snow, 21, watched for two hours from his home on Poplar Ridge Road while a SWAT team, U.S. Marshals and North Charleston police swarmed the area.

“I stepped out and they just told me to go back inside,” Snow said. “The entire street was lined with cars, so I couldn’t go anywhere even if I wanted to.”

The wanted man was reported to be in custody shortly after 4 p.m., Pryor said.
