A man was killed and two women injured when a boat ran aground on Shutes Folly near Charleston Thursday night, according to the Coast Guard.
The man killed in the wreckage was identified as George Grainger, 51, of Charleston, according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton.
The death occurred after a 25-foot center console vessel ran aground shortly before 11:30 p.m., and one of the injured women called the Coast Guard for help. A 29-foot response boat was launched to assist.
The crew took the two women to Station Charleston, where EMS treated them and took them to Medical University Hospital.
Grainger died after being ejected from the vessel. A Mount Pleasant Fire Department response boat transported the body.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the gentlemen killed in this tragic incident,” Senior Chief Petty Officer Justin Longval, the officer in charge for Station Charleston, said in a statement.
The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident, Rhoton said.
