A 21-year-old Hollywood man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday for fatally shooting a man outside a West Ashley Waffle House two years ago.
Deonte Steven Brown of New Road Extension shot two men at the Waffle House at 3565 Savannah Highway July 15, 2012. Quinton Allen, 28, of Johns Island was wounded inside the restaurant near Main Road. Dantaye Reed, 19, of Ravenel was fatally shot in the back outside the restaurant.
Brown was 18 at the time of the shooting.
A jury found Brown guilty of murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office. He must serve the entire 50-year sentence that Circuit Judge Roger Young imposed.
Brown arrived at the Waffle House with several friends after leaving a nightclub and started yelling at Allen, according to testimony at the trial. When Allen didn't respond, Brown got in his face and threw a drink on him. The two started fighting. The staff tried to force Brown outside. He pulled a gun and fired several shots, hitting Allen in the arm.
Brown fired several more shots as he left, fatally striking Reed in the back.
