A 43-year-old man was flown to a hospital Monday night after he was shot with a shotgun during a fight near the Dorchester-Colleton County line.

The shooting happened about 8:20 p.m. at Jelico’s Landing on U.S. Highway 17A in Dorchester County, Colleton County Director of Fire and Rescue Barry McRoy said.

McRoy said the man was shot in the abdomen and arm with a shotgun. A friend put him in a car and started to drive him to Colleton Medical Center when they were stopped in Cottageville by Cottageville police.

The officers saw the injured man and immediately called Colleton County firefighter-paramedics who responded within two minutes from the Cottageville station, McRoy said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was treated at the scene and loaded into a LifeNet 4 medical helicopter at Cottageville Elementary School on Pearce Road. He was flown to the Medical University Hospital in Charleston.

Dorchester County sheriff’s investigators have not released details about the shooting.
