SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Authorities say a man who crashed into a Spartanburg County deputy has been charged with driving under the influence.

Investigators said in a news release that 33-year-old Drako Nesbitt's vehicle crossed the center line of U.S. Highway 221 around 1:30 a.m. Saturday and crashed head-on into the deputy's marked SUV.

Sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Bobo says the deputy is recovering from a concussion, whiplash and other injuries.

Authorities say Nesbitt was taken to the sheriff's office and booked charged with a first offense of DUI. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
