Man charged with armed robbery in Sunday holdup of Waffle House in North Charleston

A 28-year-old man is in custody in connection with a holdup early Sunday at a Waffle House in North Charleston.

Robert Alexander Batson Lopez of Upjohn Road in North Charleston is charged with armed robbery.

About 3:30 a.m., officers responded to Waffle House at 2357 Aviation Ave. to check out a report of a robbery.

A restaurant worker told police the robber was a young white man wearing a black beanie and a tattoo of a name on his neck. The man had placed a to-go order and then claimed to have forgotten his money in the car. But when he returned, he had a pistol in his hand, according to a police report.

He told the worker to be quiet and give him the money. He then reached over the counter and grabbed an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing in a silver vehicle, police said.

Around 10 a.m., officers received information that a subject who may have robbed a Waffle House was staying at the Charleston Heights Motel at 4241 Rivers Ave. Officers located Lopez inside a room and he was taken in to custody, police said.
