Man accused of stealing truck, leading deputies in chase identified

Pele Jamaar White is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for blue lights, malicious injury to real property, and first-offense driving under suspension.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office identified a Moncks Corner man who they say stole a truck and engaged deputies in a chase through North Charleston Wednesday.

Deputies arrested Pele Jamaar White, 30, of Ot Wallace Road and charged him with possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for blue lights, malicious injury to real property, and first-offense driving under suspension.

A woman reported her blue Toyota Tundra and credit card stolen on Oct. 2, a Sheriff’s Office incident report said.

Deputies saw the truck pulling into the Kangaroo Express parking lot at 5225 Rivers Ave., according to sheriff’s Capt. Mike Stanley.

White was alone in the truck, the report said.

He saw the deputies and drove down Rivers Avenue into the Russelldale area, Stanley said.

Deputies say White jumped out on Rockingham Street and ran off on foot, allowing the Tundra to hit a curb and come to a stop against a chain-link fence.

Deputies chased after White on foot and took him into custody on Twitty Street, Stanley said.
