A man was hospitalized with gunshot wounds in a North Charleston shooting today, police said.
Officers were dispatched to 1741 Lester St., concerning shots fired in the area, Deputy Chief Scott Deckard said.
Officers found a 36-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his upper torso and stomach area, Deckard said. Paramedics transported the man to Medical University Hospital for treatment, he said.
Witnesses reported hearing two people arguing prior to the gunshots, Deckard said.
Officers are searching for a suspect described as a tall, thin black man wearing a black hat, Deckard said.
The shooting remains under investigation, he said.
Several North Charleston schools were placed on lock down while officers searched for a suspect. Morningside Middle School, School of the Arts and Academic Magnet High School, North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary, Dunston Elementary, and Liberty Hill Academy were placed on lock down, Deckard said.
Lock down was lifted about 1:30 p.m., according to Charleston County School District officials.
