Lightning strike suspected in West Ashley house fire

The roof of a house in the Grand Oaks subdivision burned Monday after witnesses said they saw lightning hit it.

A West Ashley house was heavily damaged Monday when lightning apparently hit the roof.

A blaze on Cabrill Drive in the Grand Oaks subdivision was reported shortly after 6 p.m. The roof was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. Witnesses reported seeing lightning hit the roof before the fire, according to Charleston Fire Marshal Mike

The subdivision is off Bees Ferry Road. No injuries were reported.
