A “security related issue” that officials would not discuss caused a lockdown to be ordered at Lieber Correctional Institution.

The lockdown at the maximum security prison in Ridgeville began Friday, due to “a security related issue that can not be disclosed at this time,” S.C. Department of Corrections spokesman Clark Newsom said.

Newsom said the lockdown was in response to “a situation under investigation by our folks.” If the investigation goes well, the lockdown will last through Sunday and “we’ll be back up and running by Monday,” he said.
