A crash on Interstate 26 near Midland Park Road backed up eastbound traffic on the highway, a car fire caused lane shutdowns in Mount Pleasant and downed power lines delayed motorists on Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday morning, authorities reported.
Portions of Highway 17 near Highway 41 were closed for a short time while power lines were repaired, according to police. The lanes reopened at about 12:50 p.m. The downed power lines caused traffic issues earlier this morning after a wreck on Highway 17.
Rescuers at the scene reported that people with serious injuries were being taken to Medical University Hospital.
A car on fire in Mount Pleasant also caused traffic delays this morning, according to police. Multiple lanes of Highway 17, south of the Wando Crossing shopping center were closed, police said.
Another wreck was reported about 7:23 a.m. near Mile Marker 210, which is west of the Aviation Avenue interchange, the S.C. Highway Patrol said.
No injuries were immediately reported, but traffic was reportedly slow westward to College Park Road.
