A kitchen fire that broke out in Charleston’s Melrose Park neighborhood at about 7 p.m. today displaced one family, a Charleston fire official said.
One apartment in the two-story, eight-unit complex at 2408 Etiwan Avenue was destroyed, Battalion Chief Nick Grimes said. The blaze was under control within 15 minutes of emergency crews’ arrival, Grimes said.
Neighbors were allowed to return to the apartments late this evening.
The specific cause of the fire was under investigation late tonight, Grimes said.
