CAMDEN, S.C. — A judge has ruled that an Elgin woman will not face a murder charge in the shooting death of a woman three years ago.
The State newspaper reported that Circuit Judge Robert Hood has ruled that 60-year-old Sally Memmert was justified in shooting 29-year-old Petra Boykin.
Sheriff’s deputies say Boykin was shot after she entered Memmert’s home and attacked her.
Hood cited South Carolina’s “stand your ground” law in ruling that Memmert did not have to stand trial on the murder charge.
Prosecutor Dan Johnson says he is consulting with the attorney general’s office about a possible appeal of the judge’s ruling.
