A Johns Island woman was arrested Friday after deputies said she mistreated two horses.
Susan Rebecca Housley, 41, of Plowground Road is charged with two counts of ill treatment to animals. She was being held in the Charleston County jail.
A Charleston County deputy visited her property Jan. 22 and found two thoroughbred mares to be severely underweight and covered with fungal dermatitis, according to the arrest affidavits. One of the horses was 5 years old and the other 16 years old. The older mare had a month-old foal at her side.
Each charge is subject to a penalty of 90 days in jail and a fine of $100 to $1000.
