A 28-year-old James Island man has been arrested on charges of raping a teenager after buying her alcohol and giving her cocaine, according to court records.

Terry Charles Mason, of Rivers Point Row, is being held at the Charleston County jail. Bail was set at $200,000 on the third-degree criminal sexual conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges. However, Mason is being held without bail on the sexual exploitation of a minor and giving obscene materials to a minor charges.

The 16-year-old accuser reported to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office that Mason contacted her Sept. 5 on Facebook and she asked if he could buy her alcohol. He then took her to a local gas station and purchased three cans of an alcoholic lemonade before taking her back home, according to an arrest affidavit.

At 3 a.m. Sept. 6, Mason contacted the girl again and asked if he could go to her house. When he arrived, she was intoxicated and the two snorted cocaine in his vehicle, the affidavit states.

Mason bought the girl more alcohol and she became sick at home before blacking out. When she awoke, Mason was having sex with her and wouldn’t stop despite her pleas, according to the affidavit.

After the assault, Mason allegedly showed the girl a homemade video that she described as pornography. The victim knew the girl in the video and thought she was 17 years old, but investigators found out she was 15 at the time.

Mason has previously been convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor between the ages of 11 and 14. He was sentenced in 2012 to five years in prison to be suspended upon two years of probation.
