CONWAY, S.C. — It appears Horry County may exempt young children and those getting married from its ban on large tents on the beach.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that county council is considering changes to an ordinance passed last year banning the big tents.

Council is expected to consider an amendment that now would allow small child-sized pop-up tents. It would also allow large tents for special events, including weddings, if a county permit is obtained.

The ban was originally passed because dozens of large tents were making it hard for emergency vehicles to make their way along the beach.

But the county attorney said after the ban was put in place, officials began receiving complaints from beachgoers.
