A registered sex offender driving under suspension hit a Charleston County fireman’s truck, fled the scene and wrecked, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A St. Paul’s Fire Department battalion chief was turning into the station on S.C. Highway 162 in Hollywood about 10 p.m. Thursday when a Dodge Magnum ran into the rear driver’s side of the truck he was driving and kept going, according to the incident report.

The chief tried to follow the truck that hit him but lost sight of it.

Deputies were sent to another accident on Dixie Plantation Road. They found a wrecked Dodge Magnum with the driver nowhere around. The chief came to the scene and identified the truck as the one that hit him, according to the report.

The driver later turned himself in.

Andrew Scott Casey, 26, of Woodbine Avenue in North Charleston, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and driving under suspension. He was being held in the Charleston County jail Friday awaiting a bond hearing.

Casey, a registered sex offender, was out of jail on $50,000 bail for a probation violation after pleading guilty to committing a lewd act on a minor, according to jail and court records.
