Highway Patrol investigating after North Charleston police cruiser collides with sedan

The S.C. Highway Patrol is still investigating who is at fault after a North Charleston police cruiser and a civilian sedan collided Thursday on Dorchester Road.

The wreck was reported just before 6:30 p.m. at Dorchester and Fellowship roads, according to Lance Cpl. Hannah Wimberly. She said the North Charleston police cruiser, a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria, was traveling west in the median on Dorchester Road to avoid traffic when it collided with a 2013 Hyundai sedan making a left turn onto Dorchester Road from Fellowship Road.

Wimberly said the cruiser was driving with its lights on, but not its sirens. She did not know if the officer driving the cruiser was responding to an emergency call. There were no injuries reported and traffic was at a stand-still at the time of the crash, Wimberly said. She added that troopers are waiting on dash cam footage to investigate further.
