Highway Patrol asking for tips on fatal hit and run in Berkeley County

The Highway Patrol is asking for information about a fatal hit and run in Berkeley County, one of two traffic fatalities early Sunday morning.

Jordan Gailey, 29, of Summerville was fatally injured at 3:09 a.m. on U.S. Highway 17-A near Farmington Road, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said. The driver who hit him fled the scene. Gailey died at 10:14 a.m. at Medical University Hospital.

Troopers had no immediate information on the make, model or color of the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the Highway patrol at 843-953-6010.

The Highway Patrol also reported a second fatal accident in the Lowcountry early Sunday morning.

A driver of a 1996 Ford SUV was killed around 1 a.m. in Dorchester County. The driver disregarded a stop sign on Duncan Chapel Road at Shady Grove Road and hit a tree, according to the Highway Patrol. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report. Nobody else was in the vehicle.

His identity has not been released.
