High near 86, slight chance of thunderstorms expected in Charleston area

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 3:30 p.m. for parts of Charleston and Berkeley counties.

At 2:24 p.m., a thunderstorm was located near Jamestown, moving northeast at 25 mph.

The storm has 60 mph wind gusts and hail, radar indicated.

“Hail damage to vehicles is expected,” according to the alert. “Expect wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

The Weather Service those in the path of the storm to move to an interior room in the lowest floor of the building for protection.

Areas affected so far include McClellanville and rural areas of Berkeley County: Palmerville, Calestown, Thomas Corner, Shulerville, Newland, Alvin, Farewell Corner, Bethera and Simmonsville.

The workweek got off to a tranquil, warm start with sunny skies Monday morning in the Charleston area, but a slight chance of storminess will come after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The threat of a thunderstorm will linger through Tuesday.
