Tired of waiting for construction to start on a new elementary school, a group of Hanahan residents has created a website and posted signs in Tanner Plantation to publicize their cause.

Over the weekend, members of the Hanahan Citizens Committee for a New Elementary School created a website called whereisourschool.com to share information with city residents, said group chairman Pat Eckstine. The committee was formed by Mayor Minnie Newman-Blackwell.

Berkeley County School District and the city have been haggling since December over a 21-acre city-owned tract on Williams Lane. The city gave the district a deadline of March 13 to iron out the deed restrictions on the site.

The two parties were not able to come up with a compromise by the deadline, but have continued to negotiate since then, officials said.
