Hanahan police, SLED investigate after woman found dead

Hanahan police and state agents are investigating after a 68-year-old woman was found dead on her bedroom floor Monday morning.

The woman was identified by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office as Frances Anderson. Her cause of death has not yet been released, but Capt. Michael Fowler said “the nature of the death to us looks suspicious.” Anderson’s body was taken to Medical University Hospital for an autopsy.

Authorities were called around 7:25 a.m. to the home on Beverly Drive where Anderson’s body was found. Fowler would not say how police were tipped off to the woman’s death or if anyone else was at the home when they responded.

“Some things at the scene didn’t look right,” he said, without releasing further details.

The State Law Enforcement Division could not immediately be reached for comment about its participation in the investigation.
