GEORGETOWN, S.C. -- Gov. Nikki Haley says Georgetown is an inspiration for the rest of South Carolina.

The governor returned Tuesday to discuss rebuilding after a fire raced through the coastal city’s business district last month. She told reporters the entire state is watching and supporting Georgetown.

The fire destroyed seven buildings and damaged others. Georgetown Fire Chief Joey Tanner said he expects a State Law Enforcement Division report on the cause within a week.

Haley has declared the site a disaster area, allowing those who suffered losses to get Small Business Administration loans. She also signed an order allowing up to $1 million in grants for rebuilding public infrastructure.

The governor added the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism is spending up to $20,000 to attract tourists to the area.
