Greenville man gets 30 years for homicide by child abuse

GREENVILLE, S.C. — A judge has sentenced a Greenville man to 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of homicide by child abuse in the death of an infant.

The Greenville News reports that a jury found Tarran Marteious Edwards guilty Tuesday in the death of 11-week-old Syre Parks.

Doctors at the two-day trial testified that the child suffered injuries to his brain, spine, neck and eyes consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

A prosecutor said that Edwards may have snapped when he couldn’t get the child to stop crying in November of 2013.

Leaving the courtroom, Edwards maintained his innocence and promised to appeal.
