Jazzmyne has three children under the age of 10 and lives in a three-bedroom apartment in the Bayside community. Having lost her job as a personal caregiver at a local nursing home, she found herself in a critical life situation; she was about to be put out on the street.

Jazzmyne had applied for several jobs and was hired this past week. However, she will not receive her first paycheck for two more weeks and her rent is due in three days.

Jazzmyne came to the Star Gospel Mission with an eviction notice in hand and was told that she would qualify for a Good Cheer Fund check that could be used for a portion of her monthly rent. This check will buy her the time she will need to earn her first paycheck from her new job so that she can get ahead of her bills and remain in her apartment.

Contributions to The Post and Courier’s Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are the Lowcountry Food Bank, the Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, the Association for the Blind, Coastal Catholic Charities and Carolina Youth Development Center. Every cent of the money goes directly to the agencies, as there are no administrative costs involved.

Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also can be made in person or online at goodcheerfund.com.
