A funnel cloud passed through lower Berkeley County this evening but did not touch down, according to the National Weather Service.
Strong winds from a thunderstorm brought some trees down in the Moncks Corner and Bonneau areas. Some hail was reported, and a wind gust of 59 miles per hour was recorded in Pineville, weather service meteorologist Frank Alsheimer said.
Alsheimer said a tornado warning was issued after several people told the weather service they observed a funnel cloud descend from a storm cell. By 8:50 p.m., however, the thunderstorm had weakened and the funnel cloud was gone.
Alsheimer said there is still a chance for strong thunderstorms in the Lowcountry overnight.
