A funnel cloud passed through Berkeley County Tuesday evening but did not touch down, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong wind from a thunderstorm brought some trees down in the Moncks Corner and Bonneau areas.

Some hail was reported, and a wind gust of 59 mph was recorded in Pineville, Weather Service meteorologist Frank Alsheimer said.

Alsheimer said a tornado warning was issued after several people told the Weather Service they saw a funnel cloud descend from a storm cell near Moncks Corner.

The cell was headed northeast. By 8:50 p.m., however, the thunderstorm had weakened and the funnel cloud was gone, he said.
