Funeral set for Panthers fan who died in San Francisco

LANCASTER, S.C. — Funeral services are scheduled for a South Carolina man who collapsed and died during a family outing to the Super Bowl.

Daffney Rucker said the funeral for her husband, 44-year-old William Rucker, is scheduled for Saturday at a middle school in Lancaster.

William Rucker and members of his family were attending a party at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco when Keyshawn Johnson, who played for the Carolina Panthers, handed his 9-year-old son a football. Moments later and just hours before the Super Bowl, Rucker collapsed and died. The story was initially reported by WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Daffney Rucker said her husband was a Panthers fan and was overjoyed about being around the Super Bowl festivities. She said he always wanted his son to get a football.
