Funeral services, wakes to continue

Nine bows with the names of each of the June 17 shooting victims hang on the fence of Emanuel AME Church on Friday.

Funeral services for those who were killed by a gunman on June 17 will continue throughout the next few days.

Several of the remaining services will be held at Emanuel AME Church, 110 Calhoun St., where the shootings occurred.

Cynthia Hurd’s funeral service will be at the church beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

After Hurd’s service, a joint funeral service for Susie Jackson and Tywanza Sanders is to begin at 2 p.m., also at the church.

DePayne Middleton Doctor’s funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, also at Emanuel AME. Burial will be at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road.

Later Sunday at the church, the family of Myra Thompson will receive friends for a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service for her will take place 11 a.m. Monday at Emanuel.

The Charleston service for the Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr. will be Tuesday at Greater St. Luke AME Church, 78 Gordon St.

It will begin with a viewing at 1 p.m., and the service will start at 2 p.m.

There also will be a wake in Columbia from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Leevy’s Funeral Home, 1831 Taylor St.

The Columbia service will take place Thursday beginning with a viewing at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. at Bethel AME Church, 819 Woodrow St.
