A former bookkeeper at a Mount Pleasant school has been charged with embezzlement of public funds.

Mount Pleasant police arrested Kearnan Tomlinson on Monday, according to jail records.

She was a bookkeeper at Charles Pinckney Elementary School until she resigned May 18.

Tomlinson was released after a judge set bail at $10,000.

She admitted to school officials that she embezzled funds, according to a police report. An auditor determined that $6,088 was missing from the elementary school.

She had worked for the school district for about three years and her annual salary was $34,300, the report states.
