CHARLESTON – A former NASA astronaut who was the first orthopedic surgeon in space is scheduled to deliver a talk at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Robert Satcher speaks Tuesday at the Charleston school on the effects of space on the body’s muscles and skeleton. Satcher has logged almost 260 hours in space aboard the space shuttle.

He was selected to be an astronaut in 2004 and last September left NASA. He now works at the Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
