A building in North Charleston’s Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood was destroyed by fire early Thursday.

The fire at Cherokee and Osceola streets was reported shortly before 5 a.m., North Charleston Fire Department spokeswoman Bianca Bourbeau said. The two-story wood frame building was fully engulfed in flames and was a total loss.

The building on Kraft Avenue was a neighborhood store at one time and had been converted into apartments. The first floor was heavily damaged by a fire a few years ago.

Officials had not determined if anyone was in the building at the time or what caused the fire.
