Fire damages Summerville home

A Monday afternoon fire in Summerville damaged this North Hickory Street home.

Summerville — A Monday afternoon fire heavily damaged a home on North Hickory Street and displaced three residents.

Larry Bachelor said he was sleeping in a back room about 3 p.m. When he got up and opened the door, smoke rushed in.

He was able to get out of the house without injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Summerville Fire Department Chief Ricky Waring IV said.

The Carolina Lowcountry chapter of the American Red Cross provide the three adults with one night of temporary housing, funds to replace food and clothing, comfort kits and referrals to partner agencies to assist with recovery.
