A fire broke out in a house on Read Street in North Charleston this afternoon, according to North Charleston Fire Department spokeswoman Bianca Sancic.

Firefighters responded to a call just before 2:30 p.m. The first units on the scene reported slight smoke showing from the single-story home, Sancic said.

Firefighters got the fire under control quickly. All the occupants got out of the house safely with no reported injuries.

Firefighters were on the scene assessing the extent of the damage as of 3:15 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
