Father charged with murder after shooting son in argument at Charleston County home

Michael Brown was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a stolen pistol after he allegedly shot his son at a Winchester Street home on Saturday, July 26, 2014.

A man shot and killed his son during an argument at a North Charleston-area home Saturday night, according to Charleston County Sheriff's deputies.

Deputies responded to 7664 Winchester St. at 10:04 p.m. and were told by witnesses that Michael Brown, 54, shot his son during an argument, Maj. Eric Watson said.

His son, 19-year-old Michael Brown, was pronounced dead at a local hospital, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton said.

The elder Brown, who was on the scene when deputies arrived, was taken into custody on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a stolen pistol.

He is being held at the Sheriff Cannon Detention Center.
