A fatality was reported Sunday on Johns Island.
The single-vehicle crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Brownswood Road, near Island Estates Drive, according to Charleston police. A 2000 Honda sedan was traveling north on Brownswood when it went off the right side of the road.
The driver then over-corrected and crossed both the north and southbound lanes of traffic before hitting a ditch, flipping over and striking a tree, said police spokesman Charles Francis.
The driver, who was the only person in the car, was not wearing a seat belt and died. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the driver’s identity.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
