Fatal West Ashley shooting domestic related, police say

A man was fatally shot in West Ashley early Thursday trying to climb in a window, according to Charleston police.

The shooting was reported around 12:45 a.m. at 1900 Hazelwood Drive. The Orleans Gardens neighborhood is across Orleans Road from Citadel Mall.

The incident appears to be domestic related, and the man trying to climb in the window knew the people inside the apartment, police spokesman Charles Francis said. Police didn’t say who fired the shot.

Officers arrived to find a 22-year-old North Charleston man lying on the ground outside Building G, according to the incident report. He was pronounced dead at Medical University Hospital.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name.

This is the seventh homicide so far this year in the tri-county area and the first in the Charleston city limits.
