Ex-Spartanburg officer pleads to weapons charge

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A former Spartanburg police officer has pleaded guilty to a weapons charge.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported that 25-year-old Alvin Jamar Anderson of Duncan pleaded guilty Wednesday to firing a gun into a home.

Circuit Judge Roger Couch sentenced Anderson to three years in prison and five years of probation. Anderson also has been ordered to complete anger management counseling.

A Spartanburg County sheriff's deputy responded to a shooting call last September at a house in Wellford. No one was seriously injured.

Anderson had been working at the Spartanburg Police Department in February 2013 before he was fired after the shooting.
