The Beach Co. and its employees and associates have offered up $40,000 for a permanent memorial to honor the nine victims of last month’s fatal shooting inside Emanuel AME Church.
The company’s donation marks the beginning of the process. The church and wider community still must consider a design, location, budget and timetable for such a memorial. Both Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and Emanuel AME Presiding Elder Dr. Norvel Goff already have endorsed the idea.
Goff is scheduled to talk further Wednesday morning about the memorial and the church’s other repairs and programs that it plans to address as it moves forward from the tragedy.
A fund is being established to receive additional contributions for the memorial, and more details will be announced later.
