A 75-year-old man drowned in a creek shortly after he left his Jamestown home for a walk Sunday night, according to the Berkeley County coroner.

Dulas Beaford's son reported him missing around 8 p.m. Sunday, Coroner Bill Salisbury said. An ensuing search included 50 people from the Berkeley County Rescue Squad, the Sheriff's Office and the Jamestown Rural Fire Department.

The crew first found Beaford's hat on the banks of Savannah Creek about a half-mile from his home, Salisbury said. His body was found around 12:28 a.m. Monday in the creek.

Salisbury said that Beaford's drowning was ruled accidental.
