Driver in fatal boat crash receives probation 3 SC men charged in boat crashes that killed 4Family receives settlement after fatal boat crash in Lexington County

LAKE MURRAY, S.C. - The driver of a boat that crashed on Lake Murray in 2010, killing two of his friends, has been sentenced to 18 months of probation.

The State newspaper reports that 33-year-old Steven Miller of Irmo pleaded guilty to breach of the peace. He also must perform 120 hours of community service.

His lawyer Marion Moses said Friday that Miller lost his two best friends. The plea was finalized Sept. 15.

Miller was initially charged with being impaired and failing to have the boat lit. But Solicitor Dan Johnson says it was impossible to prove Miller was impaired. His blood-alcohol level after the crash was 0.03 percent. Johnson also points out another boat hit Miller's.

A misdemeanor charge of boating under the influence is pending against the other boater.
