Dorchester 2 sets meetings on bell schedule

Changing bell times will help streamline bus routes, Dorchester District 2 officials said. Currenty, some high school students are dropped off more than an hour before school starts.

Dorchester District 2 has scheduled several community meetings on the proposed bell schedule changes.

The proposal calls for high school to run from 9:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.; middle schools, 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.; and elementary schools, 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Changes would take place beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.

The board started considering the change in times in May but delayed action to get public input. Feedback will play a role in determining what will be presented to the board in December.

Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. at the following locations: Newington Elementary (Aug. 27), Ashley Ridge High (Sept. 9), Oakbrook Middle (Sept. 23), Summerville High (Oct. 7), William Reeves Elementary (Oct. 21), Fort Dorchester High (Nov. 6), Alston Middle (Nov. 18).
