Dorchester murder suspect turns self in at sheriff’s office

Thomas Shewtzuck is wanted in connection with Saturday’s fatal shooting of Travis Gordon.

The 18-year-old Summerville man accused of fatally shooting another man at a gas station Saturday has been arrested, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas Robert Shewtzuk, last known to live on Sawmill Court, is charged with murder after allegedly shooting 23-year-old Travis Aaron Gordon. Deputies have been searching for him for two days.

He turned himself in at 3 p.m. Thursday, according to Capt. Tony Phinney. He walked into the sheriff’s office and surrendered himself without incident.His bond hearing is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday.

Shewtzuk and Gordon traveled together about 10 a.m. to the Quick Food Mart and BP gas station at 2703 U.S. Highway 17A, which is near the intersection of Boone Hill and Dorchester roads, Phinney said. The two entered the store together and Shewtzuk went outside to retrieve a gun, returned and shot Gordon twice, he said.

Phinney has not revealed the nature of Shewtzuk and Gordon’s relationship other than to say they know each other. There also was an unidentified third person who arrived at the gas station with them but remained in the car.
