Dorchester honors heroes

Four-year-old MacKenzie McCray and her sister, six-year-old Damari McCray, were honored by Dorchester County authorities Monday for their quick thinking and bravery when their mother had a medical emergency.

SUMMERVILLE— Four-year-old MacKenzie McCray held her mother’s hand and sang, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” to calm her. Six-year-old Damari McCray dialed 911 to bring help.

The sisters “bravery and responsible action” at their Ladson home in August led to their appearance at Dorchester County Council on Monday, accompanied by their beaming parents, Danielle and Mario McCray

They were awarded a resolution honoring their “quick thinking and calm” after Danielle McCray had a medical episode that needed emergency care.

Shy and a little awed, they quietly shook hands with council members before Chairman Larry Hargett presented Damari with a plaque.
