Dorchester District 2 schools on ‘heightened alert’ after threat against children, teachers surfaces

Officers at Dorchester District 2 schools will be on heightened alert Friday after a message posted on Facebook warned of threats to South Carolina children and teachers.

The threat, which was made ahead of Sept. 11, isn’t believed to be credible, according to the school district. Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies and police officers from Summerville and North Charleston will increase patrols around schools and the surrounding community as a precaution, according to the district.

Charleston County School District spokeswoman Erica Taylor also released a statement saying the threat isn’t believed to be credible.

“As the safety, security and well-being of our students is of upmost priority, and we will take the necessary precautions to ensure such,” Taylor said.
