SUMMERVILLE — Dorchester County ambulance fees are likely to be raised $2 per mile, but County Council has sent the proposal to committee to review the advanced life support fees, which cost hundreds of dollars.
The mileage rate would be raised from $7 to $9 starting with the new fiscal year, July 1. County Administrator Jason Ward told council Monday the fee hike would bring the county’s emergency medical service more in line with neighboring counties. Berkeley County charges $10 per mile; Charleston County charges $8.50, $10.25 in rural areas, he said.
The last time fees were raised in Dorchester County was 2002, when gasoline was cheaper.
