A criminal domestic violence charge filed this month against College of Charleston Fire and EMS Chief Richard Krantz Jr. has been dismissed.

Krantz, 56, of East Ashley Avenue on Folly Beach had been accused of presenting a firearm and throwing his live-in girlfriend down after breaking into a bathroom where she had locked herself, an arrest affidavit stated.

In an affidavit, the woman that Krantz had been accused of threatening stated that she had never known Krantz to act aggressively toward her and she did not want to pursue the criminal charge. Krantz was acting strangely, the woman wrote, after the two had been drinking and he was stung by a jellyfish. She contacted authorities out of more concern for his safety than her own, she said.

The domestic violence charge was dismissed Thursday after a preliminary hearing, Charleston County court records show.
