A 1.9-magnitude earthquake rumbled beneath the Ladson area Saturday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported about 10 p.m. The epicenter was about three miles south-southwest of Ladson and five miles south-southeast of Summerville. Small earthquakes are pretty common in the area and not necessarily a precursor of larger earthquakes to come, experts say.

That said, a new earthquake map says the Charleston area is at high risk for a damaging earthquake within 50 years.
