Deputies: Fresh blood found at missing Hollywood woman's home

Julia Ann Mudgett, 77, of Toogoodoo Road in Hollywood, has been missing since Sunday, according to Charleston County sheriff's deputies.

Investigators found fresh blood in the home of a Hollywood woman who has been missing since Sunday, Charleston County sheriff's deputies said.

Details surrounding 77-year-old Julia Ann Mudgett's disappearance are few, nearly a week after she is said to have gone missing.

Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson would not say how much blood was found at the woman's Toogoodoo Road home or where in the house the blood was located.

Mudgett's friend reported her missing this week after finding her front door open and a window shattered. Mudgett had not answered phone calls and failed to show up for a Bible study, the friend told investigators.

Watson said it's clear "something" happened at the home, though what won't be clear until Mudgett is found.

The case is being handled as a missing person investigation; "however, we are not ruling out foul play in her disappearance," Watson said.

No suspects have been identified in the case, he said.

Mudgett is described as a white woman, 5 feet 4 inches tall and about 114 pounds. A photo of Mudgett released by deputies shows her with short, grey hair.

Mudgett's vehicle, a burgundy 2002 Hyundai Elantra, is also missing. The vehicle's license plate number is HHC 851, deputies said.

The county's Criminal Investigations Division, aviation unit and marine patrol are involved in the search.

Anyone who sees Mudgett should contact law enforcement.
